Crisp mountain air, crackling fires, aperitivo and Aperol Spritz. What more could you ask for? Those cold fronts have started to roll in and it’s time to plan Spritz time in the snow with your squad.
Here are our top 8 tips to getting après-ski-ready this winter.
1. Layer up for the snow. Mountain weather can be unpredictable so you’ll need to layer your gear.
Base layer: Go for snug-fitting thermals.
Mid layer: Trap in heat with a jumper or fleece jacket.
Outer layer: Stay protected and cosy with a waterproof jacket and ski pants.
Hitting the slopes & looking for some Après fashion inspiration? A big trend this season is eco-friendly ski wear. Picture Organic Clothing uses recycled, ethically sourced materials, while PE Nation has a Sustainable in Snow collection made from quick-dry recycled materials in striking designs.
2. Ski gear: BYO or hire? If it’s your first time skiing or you don’t own any gear, you can hire what you need through a local sports shop or the ski resort. But be sure to book what you need in advance, including ski boots, skis and poles, snowboard and helmet so you’re ready to shred when you arrive.
3. Accessorise. Pack goggles for rain and snow, and polarized sunglasses to block out snow-glare. Plus, don’t forget a few pairs of warm socks, a scarf, beanie and earmuffs.
4. Don’t forget the extras. It’s worth taking something to soothe tired muscles, plus bathers for the jacuzzi, and sunscreen and lip balm to protect you from the sun and wind. Don’t forget snacks and water for a scenic mountain picnic.
5. Aprés ski in style. Whether you plan to kick on or kick back, you’ll need aprés (after) ski gear. The clubs and bars will be warm, but getting to them will be chilly (especially if you’re on foot) so be sure to take non-slip shoes, a warm jacket and beanie.
6. Enjoy Aperitivo hour. After a day on the slopes, aperitivo is the perfect way to unwind and catch up on the thrills (and spills) with friends. Aperol Spritz Ready to Serve bottles are made for your evening get-togethers. So now, just grab your Aperol Spritz Ready to Serve and…
1. Pop

2. Pour

3. Enjoy

7. Pre-book your lift passes. Early-bird bookings at some ski resorts, such as Thredbo, can offer good discounts on lift passes. Busy weekends sell out quickly so don’t leave it till the last minute to get your passes.
8. Book your stay. Australian ski resorts are winter wonderlands for snowboarders and skiers alike. Here are two of the most popular destinations:
Kosciuszko National Park, NSW (Thredbo)
Thredbo is around six hours south of Sydney with runs to suit every level. You can stay in town at Jindabyne which is a great base for the snowfields, and offers accommodation options for groups of all sizes and budgets. From there, the snowfields in Thredbo are a half-hour’s drive away. Going with a large group? Look into hiring a minibus to and from the mountain so you don’t have to worry about parking.
If you’d prefer on-snow accommodation, Thredbo has plenty of lodges, chalets and self-contained options to choose from. The resort also offers a vibrant après ski scene. Stop in for a cheesy fondue lunch at Kareela Hutte or kick back by the fireplace at Cascades with an Aperol Spritz, after a fun day on the mountain.
Falls Creek, VIC
Falls Creek is a popular ski-in-ski-out village and a mecca for snow sports. With accommodation options from budget to luxe, you’re spoiled for choice – from secluded mountain lodges, to family-sized apartments, to resorts with all the trimmings. At aperitivo hour, find us at QT Falls Creek where you can enjoy Aperol Spritzes, shared food and chilled vibes.
Enjoy prepping for your snow holiday. We hope to see you and your Spritz Squad on the slopes or at the bar!
Salute to your winter getaway!
